Please remember this diet is not a choice for people that suffer from Celiac Disease, it is our cure. Gluten-Free products have become more readily available and cheaper in recent years due to the increased awareness of Gluten-Free diets but it would be great if celebrities didn't cause confusion about the diet. I have now been asked in a Gluten-Free friendly restaurant if my Gluten-Free request was a preference or allergy.
Spreading misinformation about the Gluten-Free diet is confusing the real need for Celiac and other allergy sufferers. Paraphrasing from Ice Cube, "Don't get on TV talking about Gluten-Free, Cause 9 times out a 10 you don't know what the @$^& you talk'n about."
January 14, 2014 -- At least James Franco is making fun of Seth Rogen for not knowing what gluten is or why he's not eating it. Again, if your doctor has not told you to stop eating gluten EAT IT!
August 28, 2013 -- Hallmark has a Shoebox card which reads "Oh, you want something gluten-free?" - "My ASS is gluten-free!", inside: "May all your birthday wishes be granted" ... Hey Hallmark, what if my wish is to eat gluten?
June 14, 2013 -- Gluten-Free isn't a joke. Al Roker "The customer asks for Gluten-Free fries and you just kinda put bread on there" ... Wow Al. Let's make people sick on purpose after they've told you they're allergic to something, sounds like an appropriate (not even funny) joke for national TV to me! [Video starting @ 3:00]
May 22, 2013 -- Chelsea Lately claims to be on the Gluten-Free diet, but still eats bread anyway... and then she and her guests also have no idea what a Gluten-Free diet is really meant for.
May 21, 2013 -- An episode of the Disney Channel kids' show "Jessie" has been pulled after a petition to stop it from airing due to enough attention from a Change.org petition. Celiac disease is tough enough for an adult to deal with on a daily basis, I can only imagine how this is magnified for a child. If they were throwing peanuts at a kid with a peanut allergy I heavily doubt this show would have made it past the Disney censors.
March 25, 2013 -- Vera Farmiga has no clue about Gluten-Free on Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson: "Gluten-Free is filler ... a fattening filler..."
February, 17 2012 -- Joy Bauer clears up common confusion regarding gluten-free diets. [Video]
May 7, 2012 -- Domino's Pizza has launched a Gluten-Free pizza, but they say it is not for people with celiac disease... So it's not Gluten-Free. I'm not sure if they just don't want sued or if they are really not going to prevent cross-contamination. It should be called a Low-Gluten Pizza. [Full Article]
